Cr Coltman paid big bucks to slowly pour ice cold water all over the council’s chief executive officer, Anthony Schinck, much to the delight of the assembled crowd.
Mr Schinck and five of the city’s nine councillors all took part in the #icebucketchallenge on the Ballarat Town Hall steps, raising $1000 for motor neurone disease by auctioning off pouring rights.
Cr Glen Crompton came dressed for the occasion in a rashie, shorts, thongs and a beanie before being drenched by daughter Amelia.
“Such is life,” he quipped.
Moreton Bay councillor Adrian Raedel paid long distance for Cr Amy Johnson to be soaked, all of which she donated to Ballarat boy Jaxon Cooper, who is battling an inoperable brain tumour.
Councillors John Philips, Des Hudson and Peter Innes also took part. When the councillors assembled for a post-drenching group shot, an unfortunate Cr Innes found himself on the receiving end of ice being stuffed down his shirt by councillors Hudson and Philips.
Cr Philips said he was doing the challenge because it was such a worthwhile cause.
“I was watching Neale Daniher on the TV the other day and it really tugs at the heartstrings,” he said. “If we can find a way to find a cure that would be fabulous.”
Cr Crompton said it was a fantastic event.
“I’m very proud of my fellow councillors,” he said.
Cr Innes was also taking part due to the death of a family member from MND.
