AS THE weekend beckons and we all rush to arrange weekend sport, activities with family and everything around the house that suffers during the week, I am reminded again of the generosity of individuals and businesses in this community.

The ethos of giving back is alive and well in Ballarat and we see it every day through the Christmas in July Appeal, the United Way Ballarat Reads Program, Voice FM and a host of other philanthropic and charitable endeavours.
This weekend in particular I would like to thank the wonderful volunteers who are assisting with the Special Olympics Regional Games ten pin bowling and the businesses which have overwhelmingly supported the evening fundraiser for the Special Olympics Ballarat.
On Saturday, Ballarat will host the Special Olympics Regional Games ten pin bowling and an evening fundraiser to support this fantastic program.
The Special Olympics have been strongly supported by this community, which never fails to step up and lend a hand with volunteering or providing auction prizes to assist with raising funds.
The Special Olympics in Ballarat was started in 2003 by Maureen Eddy. Today, the program supports around 60 athletes with intellectual disability, across three sports: swimming, ten pin bowling and basketball. Karden Disability Support Foundation was pleased to recently take on the role of volunteer co-ordinator for the Special Olympics in Ballarat.
It's a role we were delighted to take on so that we can give back to the community as an organisation and as individuals.
The Special Olympics is yet another way for us to support individuals with disability to participate in many of the activities we all take for granted.
To everyone in our community who selflessly donates your time, energy and products to supporting charitable and other endeavours, I say thank you.
