I WAS disappointed to read that our council has voted not to support the continued operation of the Black Hill Swimming Pool.

The meagre annual amount quoted to continue support seems quite modest in relation to perhaps how may council employees are currently earning more than $100,000 each year.
In the years since I moved to Ballarat, there have been at least five pools closed and only one opened. Compare this with Ballarat's population increase.
It would also seem that previous councils have pursued a policy of ignoring the need for continued maintenance of some of its important assets, and they, when pressed for a more significant expenditure, cry poor and wash their hands of continued support, eg the animal rescue centre.
I have no problem with the major investment at the YMCA-operated site. It will serve the growing population in the west. But what about the rest of Ballarat? I can foresee that at some point in time in the future that, due to public demand, a council will have to make a very expensive investment in land and infrastructure to provide a facility that our current council turned its back on in 2014.
Please reconsider now.
