Emigration records indicate a Matthew Costello was born in Cloughjordan, County Tipperary, Ireland, about 1833. At 22 years he is listed as leaving the port of Glasgow for Port Phillip on the boat Tornado, with his wife, Catherine Renehan, aged 25 years. Catherine was born in 1830 at Sharogue, County Offaly, Ireland. They married in County Tipperary in 1854. Possibly, Matthew's sister Ellen accompanied them. She was aged 20 years.
Matthew and Catherine arrived in the Port of Melbourne on July 15, 1855. Children from the union included John, born 1856, Matthew 1858, James 1859, and Michael 1862, and Mary Theresa birth date unknown.
Catherine died in Benalla in 1888 and is buried at Winton, Victoria.
Matthew died in Benalla in 1908, listed as a farmer at North Winton, and is buried at Winton, Victoria.
Some associated family names include Flynn, Ginnivan, Brennan, Devereux, Darley, Hemskerk, Hancock, Tavendale, and Pinder.
I am trying to locate family members for a reunion planned for 2015 160 years after their arrival in Australia.
