Eureka Encounter ($11.90) opened her career winning account for the Dunnstown trainer-driver in the Make A Wish T0 Trot, 1710m, and Super Zeck ($2.80 favourite) outclassed his rivals in the Maxitrans T1/better Handicap, 2200m.
A WA-bred four-year-old mare, Eureka Encounter had been placed just the once in 11 previous starts, but she was able to make the most of an ideal run tucked in on the pegs behind the pace.
She is the first winner produced by unraced broodmare Luck Rendezvous.
Murphy produced a copybook drive on Super Zeck off 10m, with five-year-old charging home after being time to settle on the pegs before being angled into the running line and then eased into the race three-wide.
Super Zeck’s previous start had been in a group 1 Australasian Breeders Crown final and the class factor was obvious as he brought up his fourth career success. Three of these wins have been in Ballarat.
Ballarat district stables and connections had a night out at Bray Raceway.
- Allendale trainer Basil Dooley had Grand Attack ($7.10) led all-the-way in the Flying Horse C0 Pace, 2200m. Grand Attack’s only other win had also been in Ballarat on September 2012.
- Allrightythen ($3.30 favourite) held on by the closest of margins, a short half head, in the Davies Dental Technician C5-C7 Pace, 2200m, for trainer-driver Michael Stanley. The seven-year-old took his winning tally 13 and edged his earning closer to $100,000 – breaking through the $90,000 barrier.
- Ballarat and District Trotting Club standardbred group has again tasted success. Bit Of A Babe ($2.30 favourite) had her ninth victory in the Riclea Transports C3-C4 Pace, 1710m. Trained by Geoff Webster at Bannockburn, Bit Of A Babe led throughout.
- BDTC committee members Dennis Foley and Michael Fryar were in the winners’ circle as breeders. Royal Dream ($2.20 favourite), which won the Drummond St Medical Practice T0 Trot, 1710m, is the first foal Foley and Fryar have from US-bred mare Dreamlands Nancy, which they purchased in NZ while in foal. Royal Dream was the resulting offspring. The 4yo is a half-sister of group 2 winner and group 1-placed Our Dreamlover.
