There were no 'get famous quick' antics, it was all good old hard work that has seen The Kite String Tangle, AKA Danny Harley, go from 'who?' to popular singer-songwriter in the space of a year.
Harley said the past year had been a bit of a rollercoaster ride, beginning with tours that no one knew about, to eventually making the 2013 Triple J Hottest 100.
"It has been full on, I felt like every little achievement was a win and that it couldn't get much better ... but it did," he said.
Following on from the success of his first single Given the Chance, Harley has spent the last year performing at two sold out national tours, Groovin' the Moo, and even managed to secure a guest appearance at the popular California music fiesta, Coachella Festival.
But it was his set performed at this year's Splendour in the Grass event that really stamped The Kite String Tangle's impression on Australia's music scene. "It was amazing, it's the biggest show I've done," Harley said.
"That interaction with the crowd and the chemistry was amazing."
In July he also released the second single from the Vessel EP, Arcadia, which has already proven popular among fans.
But the humble artist said it was never his intention to break into Australia’s music scene at the speed of light.
“If you had asked me a year ago where I would be, I wouldn’t have guessed this,” he said.
As part of his national tour to support the EP, The Kite String Tangle will perform at Ballarat’s Karova Lounge on Friday night. Disappointed he had missed Ballarat’s snowfall, Harley said he was looking forward to performing for fans here.
“I’m looking forward to getting to regional towns,” he said. “I’m an avid traveller, so I get to combine work with my travel bug.”
Joining The Kite String Tangle on tour will be Adelaide’s Flamingo, who released their EP Heavy Steps earlier this year.
