Video footage of Saturday's incident taken from a security camera overlooking the Camberwell Railway Station platform was released on Tuesday.

CCTV showed a woman, believed to be the boy's mother, letting go of the pram for a second to bend down to pick-up something she had dropped.

That second was all it took for the pram to roll off the platform with the toddler inside, the boy landing face-first on the tracks.

His mother immediately jumped after him with a bystander coming to her aid within seconds from the platform on the other side.

She picked the boy up and bundled him into her arms as a train coming in the opposite direction arrived at the station.

The toddler was taken to the Box Hill Hospital with minor injuries.

Police were called to the scene.
