The dishlicker served a short career on the race track, but still has a lot of love to give.
Ballarat’s Karen Robinson adopted Archie through Greyhound Racing Victoria’s Adoption Program in May.
She said she was proud of her decision.
“They are such beautiful pets,” Ms Robinson said. “He’s not high maintenance at all.”
Ms Robinson is one of the many Ballarat people to adopt a greyhound through GRV.
The program finds homes for hundreds of ex-racing greyhounds each year.
Archie has since bonded well with Ms Robinson’s other dog Grace.
“She’s part greyhound,” she said. “I’ve had her for about nine-and-a-bit years.”
Archie’s racing name was Five Monarchs.
“He came third once,” Ms Robinson said.
“I think he won $140, but that would have covered his entry into the race.”
Ms Robinson said she’d encourage pet lovers to adopt a greyhound.
“They are beautiful loving pets, I think they know they’ve been given a second chance,” she said.
