Allen has informed the club he will not be going on for a third year at the helm after reaching two-straight Central Highlands Football League preliminary finals in charge.
The 32-year-old said work commitments played a large part in his ability to not go on in 2015.
“I just don’t have the time I’d like to put into coaching,” Allen said.
“I’ve got a young family, my wife has gone back to uni so it’s just time, basically.
“The kids are getting to a stage where they want to do stuff themselves. That’s basically the reason behind it.”
The playing leader has spent the past three seasons with the Roos, which he joined from Riddell as an assistant to then-coach Shane Skontra in 2012.
Allen then took over the senior role following Skontra’s exit at the end of that season and has served in a playing capacity in 2013 and 2014.
Allen said the current senior group was in a good position for a prospective coach to take over, but made no commitment on his playing future.
Waubra president Chris Bourke said Allen had been a good servant to the club.
“He’s done a great job so we appreciate his efforts,” Bourke said. “We are currently interviewing prospective candidates and hopefully have an announcement in the near future.”
Meanwhile, Allen’s brother Jarryd is preparing for reconstructive knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the qualifying final win over Bungaree.
Allen missed the Roos’ preliminary final loss to Springbank, with the injury he sustained in the closing minutes of the match.
Jason said his brother was yet to decide whether he would have conventional reconstructive surgery or the LARS method.
