The club is working through a submission to play in a lower division of the Football Federation Victoria-sanctioned league in 2015.
Vikings president Rod Oppenhuis said the submission was still in its infancy, and had not yet transcended club level.
“It’s still in its early stages,” Oppenhuis said.
“We’ll look at presenting it (the submission) to the board at the next general meeting.
“It’s been a work in progress and we haven’t got a firm commitment from all the players yet.”
Sebastopol is unbeaten in two years of BDSA competition, with the women’s side winning its second consecutive division one flag last Saturday.
An impressive display of depth also saw it field a secondary division one team in 2014.
However, Oppenhuis said the club’s future lay firmly within the state league ranks, and believed that a state league ranking would make it a more attractive proposition for potential recruits.
“Given their (the women’s) success over the past two years, we’re always trying to move forward,” he said.
“Our future probably is in the state league and the club keeps getting stronger and stronger every year.
“It would provide another outlet for people who want to play at a higher level.”
Oppenhuis said the potential move had been in the works for more than a year.
“We had a brief look at it in 2013 and decided the players probably weren’t ready, and we’ve addressed it again this year,” he said.
“It’s got to be player-driven, because we (as a board) make a decision based on what they want.”
Should the proposal be ratified by the Vikings’ board, the club would begin discussions with FFV about the possibility of a move before the year is out.
Sebastopol’s next general meeting is early next month.
Vikings women’s coach Peter Maggi was confident the club’s board would ratify the decision when speaking after last Saturday’s grand final victory over North United Black.
