Seven food providers will create a six-course degustation dinner showcasing the region’s foods.
Organiser Kate Burrows said the event would bring top chefs from around Ballarat together in one space.
“We’ve worked closely with Peter Ford to make sure all the dishes will work together.”
Ms Burrows said each restaurant and chef had a different story to share, and people would have the opportunity to hear from the chefs on the night.
“Often you go into restaurants and you don’t know who it is that’s making you the food,” she said.
“Each of these chefs and providers has a story to share.”
She said six providers were from the region, with guest Mildura chef Stefano de Pieri making entrees.
Creswick French cafe Le Peche Gourmand will provide dessert. Owner Marie Williams said the venue would provide a mix of what was done at the cafe.
“We went to a few events like this in Sydney as guests, but we’ve never done anything like this before,” Ms Williams said.
“It will show something different about Ballarat’s food. It’s simple and honest, but good.”
Jacksons and Co chef Jeff Trotter said it was a great opportunity for chefs from the region to work together.
Preparing canapes, he will make a mini bun with Sher Wagyu beef, a Meredith Dairy goat cheese and green pea muffin and a confit duck and shallot dish.
He said although he had some pastry training, he was mainly a savoury chef and looked forward to seeing how the desserts were made.
Campana Stockade Cellars is providing cheese for the evening. Owner Leeanne Campana said the event showcased the region’s food.
“We’ve been here for 35 years. Having been asked to be involved is quite special,” Ms Campana said.
Kittelty’s pop-up restaurants founder Sara Kittelty will provide a smoked trout salad with trout from the Tuki Trout Farm.
“So many people with a passion for food can come together through this one event,” Ms Kittelty said.
Peter Ford will prepare mains and said he was enjoying the challenge of being part of a degustation dinner.
“I love getting involved in big events. They’re fun.”
He said he looked forward to working with the range of chefs involved.
There will also be six wines from Ballarat and the Pyrenees and three beers from Ballarat and Holgate at the dinner.
