Wayne Hodge said the brawl at Hudson’s Hotel was the latest in a string of violent attacks in his town.
“This has been going on for months,” Mr Hodge said.
“The hotel has been threatened, they’ve had cans and rocks thrown at the windows.
“It’s not the first fight, but the first serious one.
“Drugs are one of the main problems – and alcohol.”
Three police units were called to Hudson’s Hotel just after 10pm Saturday after reports of a brawl.
Trentham police Senior Constable Matt Beel said 10 people were involved in the fight.
“At this point we are waiting on a number of people to proceed with statements,” Senior Constable Beel said.
He said four people became hostile after they were refused entry to Hudson’s Hotel as the licensee was closing the pub.
He said it was believed others went to the assistance of the licensee and a fight broke out.
An angry Mr Hodge said Ballan had been subject to drug crime for some time and the problem had been gradually building.
“A lot of people are scared,” he said.
“I want it to be so you can walk up the street of Ballan and not worry about hoons in the main street, and at 11pm I want to stop and relax.”
An ambulance was not called to the scene, however Mr Hodge said some people received minor injuries, including a person who was left with a bite mark.
Senior Constable Beel said the investigation into the incident was continuing, however no formal statements or complaints had been made.
Witnesses can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
