The landmark Sturt Street property is now on the market for between $3.25 million and $3.65 million. It was passed in at auction in August with a vendor bid of $2.7 million, about $2 million short of the asking price.
In January, the initial $6.5-million asking price was lowered to $4.5 million-plus as a result of no negotiable sales.
The grand residence was built circa 1876 as the home of the first Catholic Bishop of Ballarat, Michael O’Connor.
“This is arguably the most historic property in the state,” Ray White Ballarat’s Phillip Lee said.
“All six bedrooms have private bathrooms and there’s a separate maids’ quarters that’s been converted to a home gym.
“There’s a grand formal dining room, reception hall, formal lounge and library.
“Outside features botanic-like gardens, spa pavilion, barbecue area, rotunda and cubby house.
“This is an opportunity to secure a slice of Victoria’s history in one of the most enviable locations in Ballarat.”
