The Marco Botto-trained Dandino and Seismos each line up in the field dominated by overseas-bred runners.
Dandino is in his second Australian campaign for Ballan-based syndicator ATB.
He finished second to Fawkner in last year’s Caulfield Cup and a luckless fifth in the Melbourne Cup.
Dandino went into those outings on the back of a win in the US St Leger. He finished second in the same race this year and has not raced since.
Craig Williams will again be aboard Dandino on Saturday, just as he was in the Caulfield Cup last year.
Williams told Racing Victoria he was really happy with Dandino.
“The reports were that he got in (travelled) well and, with everyone being very happy with his work during the week, I only cantered him around this morning but he felt good,” he said.
Craig Newitt will be aboard Seismos in his first Australian race start.
YOUNG trainer Archie Alexander is ticking plenty of boxes early in his career in Ballarat.
International galloper Renew is the latest acquisition from the Simon O’Donnell and Terry Henderson-led OTI Racing for Alexander’s stable – albeit for the short term before moving on to Chris Waller.
OTI abandoned Melbourne Cup plans with Renew after he finished next to last in his Australian debut in the Herbert Power Stakes, 2400m, at Caulfield on Saturday.
Renew is now being set for the listed Sandown Cup, 3200m, on Saturday, November 11.
Henderson said the five-year-old would stay with Alexander for a month before joining the Waller stable.
He said Renew was “just not putting in” and needed a change in environment.
COUNTRY cup specialists Gottino and Diamonds At Noon head nominations for Saturday’s $15,000 Avoca Cup, 1860m.
The Dan O’Sullivan-trained Gottino, which will be second-up, won the 2013 country racehorse of the year after a string of cups wins, while Diamonds At Noon was a finalist for the 2014 country horse of the year with victories in the Mortlake and Swan Hill cups.
Gottino won five cups in 2013 and began this year by taking out the Terang Cup.
The cup heads up a seven-race non-TAB card.
