Amateur performers are being called to sign up for the Buninyong Mount Helen Lions Club Red Faces event being held next month, with all proceeds going directly to Ballarat charities and community groups.
Inspired by the Hey Hey It’s Saturday segment, event organiser Cathy Maguire only has one warning for amateur performers: Beware of the gong.
“We wanted to create a community event where everybody can come together and have a laugh and a good time,” Ms Maguire said.
“It also allows us to showcase the best talent we have to offer in Ballarat and all for a good cause.”
As part of the show, amateur performers or groups are invited to present routines which can be anything from singing, reciting poetry, dancing or comedy before a panel of judges.
The idea was suggested by club member Wendy McCann, who said she was inspired by the national Lioness Club breakaway camp which involves women from all over Australia who come together annually to share ideas and perform in a skit show.
Ms McCann said all ages were welcome to enter and the only limitation was the performer’s imagination. Up to 15 groups will perform and will be required to present an act to last no longer than three minutes.
While Red Faces’ original judge Red Symons won’t be in attendance, Ms Maguire said there would be a local resident who would take on his role as the sarcastic and often-hilarious judge.
The event will be held at the Buninyong Town Hall, Learmonth Street, Buninyong, from 7pm on Saturday, November 15.
The cost per head to participate is $10.
