Kydd was announced on Friday as the first signing for the newly formed Sovereigns, with the entire squad expected to be finalised next week.
The 33-year-old mother-of-three will be reunited with former teammates in Sovereigns coach Natasha Chokljat and high performance manager Eloise Southby, with whom she won a silver medal in the 2003 World Championships.
It will be her first VNL campaign since a triumphant 2010 season, when she won the championship with Hume City.
After that, Kydd had three years off the court before returning for Springbank in the Central Highlands Netball League for the 2014 season, where the Tigers lost the grand final.
“Natasha (Chokljat) gave me a call asking if I would play and I thought it would be great to give it at least one more season,” Kydd said.
“I haven’t played state league for a while so I’m not sure how I will stack up.
“I’m excited about the indoor courts. It got pretty hard playing outside in winter this year.”
Chokljat said she was excited about the prospect of her former international and Phoenix teammate playing for the Sovereigns for the 2015 season.
Kydd is expected to fill an attacking role, either as goal shooter or goal attack.
“We’re so excited to have Cynna on board,” she said.
“With her experience at the highest level along with her local playing experience over the past couple of season, we know that Cynna will be a great fit for our team and we hope her experience and knowledge will benefit the younger members of our squad.”
The Sovereigns’ championship, division one and 19/under squads will be named in the coming days.
The Sovereigns were formed after Ballarat Pride did not have its VNL licence renewed at the end of last season and successfully applied for the vacancy in the competition.
