While there is no suggestion Ryder believes he was administered anything illegal and, if he did, he was an unwitting victim of the Bombers' 2012 supplements program, the star ruckman is keen for the saga to end and to begin afresh at his new club, Port Adelaide.

Representatives on Saturday of the 34 current and former Essendon players reissued with show-cause notices did not rule out players moving to cut deals, with the expectation those now at other clubs would likely lead any movement.

Ryder, who was married on Saturday, and his management were unavailable for comment.

The Power has given boom recruit Ryder, secured last week during the trade period, and teammate Angus Monfries, also a former Bomber, the option of splitting from the AFL Players Association-backed lawyers to better dictate their own fortunes with lawyer Paul Ehrlich.

The Power has been urging Monfries to seek independent counsel for several weeks but, to date, he has resisted. However, sources told Fairfax Media, Ryder could expedite his own case.

If Ryder and Monfries seek outside legal advice, they would follow the lead set by former Essendon teammates Stewart Crameri, now with the Western Bulldogs, and Brent Prismall, now with VFL side Footscray. Crameri and Prismall are being represented by criminal lawyer Rob Stary.

ASADA has issued an average of 350 pages of evidence against each of the 34 players. Sources told Fairfax Media one anti-doping official has said while ASADA's case is strong, some points could be challenged.

As the show-cause notices have now been issued, Ryder, like all players, has the option of agreeing to a "no significant fault" claim - if ASADA was to offer this. Ryder would waive his show-cause appeal and be placed on the Register of Findings. This would then trigger an infraction notice, but he would waive his right to a hearing before the AFL's anti-doping panel.

A "no significant fault" claim carries a 12-month ban, but the AFL and ASADA would most likely agree on a back-dated suspension, meaning just a handful of matches would be served next season. Given the circumstances, this result would be a favourable one for the Power, who many are already tipping as the 2015 premiership favourite since Ryder came aboard.

However, Ryder could also choose to fight the allegations before the anti-doping panel. If players were to lose that challenge, one player manager involved in the case said he expected any guilty player to be banned for a minimum of six weeks.

At its extreme, punishment for the players could extend for up to two years, even though no player has tested positive for the alleged use of thymosin beta 4.

The Power has told Ryder and Monfries they will back the pair whatever decision they make.

Both are keen to move on from the saga as quickly as possible, with Ryder's switch of clubs - despite having two years left on his Essendon contract - highlighting his desire for a fresh start.

It's understood Ryder has been told if he was to do a deal, he should not fear public backlash, for it's felt most people would understand he had been duped during the supplements program run by Stephen Dank. The former sports scientist, however, insists the players were not given any banned substances. The AFLPA is of the belief the players were not administered anything illegal.

The majority of the 34 players still appear keen to fast-track the process by opting to not challenge the show-cause notices but, unlike a "no significant fault" claim, they are keen to head to the AFL's anti-doping tribunal, where they can fight their case.

"That's the plan but that could change depending on what evidence there is when it's been thoroughly reviewed," a player agent said.

AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon will have the responsibility of determining whether infraction notices are issued.

Once at the tribunal stage, players could argue that even if there was proof thymosin beta 4 had been found at Windy Hill, this did not mean it had been administered to players, for the drug may have only been stored at the club for other purposes. ASADA's case is expected to rely on a paper trail of evidence given by disgraced biochemist Shane Charter.
