Three units battled the blaze for 10 minutes at the front of the Bacchus Marsh West Golf Club in Maddingley when they were called out at 1.30pm.
Bacchus Marsh Fire Brigade First Lieutenant Phillip Clayden said the fire started by a magpie that was on fire.
"We believe a magpie made contact with a high voltage power line, which caused it to burst into flames," Mr Clayden said.
"It landed in some fairly cured grass and sparked a brush scrub fire that spread about half a hectare."
