The number of health-related stalls at the festival has more than doubled this year – a sign the festival is indeed in good shape.
Sunday’s festival will be the township’s fourth, and Good Life committee member Miranda Donald said the prognosis was the best yet.
“It is the fourth year and we’re really hitting our stride. We have more organisations contacting us to become involved,” she said.
There are now 10 health stalls in what the committee has called a “health
hub”.
Among the health organisations participating in the health hub this year are Ballarat Community Health, Diabetes Australia and Organ Donation Awareness.
“We had four health stalls last year. It is 10 this year and I would not be surprised if it was 20 next year,” Ms Donald said.
“Overall we have 80 stalls this year, which is up from about 30.”
While the theme of the festival is healthy living in Buninyong, it is applied quite broadly.
There is the King of the Mountain Fun Run, which involves a formidable climb up Mount Buninyong, but there are also Devonshire teas and wine-tasting.
Other highlights include an open house and garden of historic Netherby house at 606 Warrenheip Street, a farmers’ market, fire brigade demonstrations and music by Motor City Sounds.
“Buninyong is such a good, healthy place to live,” Ms Donald said.
“A lot of the festival is about being healthier...”
The Good Life festival is run exclusively by volunteers.
The main stage is at the Uniting Church Ground but various activities cover the town hall precinct and, in the case of the fun run, the Buninyong sporting
complex.
The Good Life Festival is a re-invention of the Buninyong Gold King Festival, which started in 1975.
About 4000 people attended last year’s event.
Organisers were expecting that could increase to 6000 this year.
