Comelli said the idea of a player ratings system, which would limit the amount of high-level players each club could recruit, had already been discussed during the CHFL season and deemed to be a good idea.
AFL Victoria announced on Wednesday a points system and salary cap would be introduced statewide in a bid to curb skyrocketing player payments.
A trial will be introduced among certain leagues next year, although it is not known what competitions will be involved.
Comelli said the CHFL had not yet been approached to see if it was interested in being part of the trial, but it would certainly consider it if asked to do so.
However, like some Ballarat Football League clubs, Comelli said there was uncertainty over how enforceable a financial salary cap would be.
“We will support it (the points system) and most of our clubs will be willing to support it as well,” he said.
“Whether it will have much of an impact remains to be seen but there is no doubt something has to be done.”
Comelli said there had been no discussions held within the league or clubs since the plans were announced during the week, but said the common consensus during the year was that a points system would be a good idea.
“I don’t think you’ll find too many clubs across the state that would be opposed to the idea,” he said.
“We have not had a vote with the clubs as yet, but there is a feeling that there is a lot of support for it.”
On Thursday, all 11 BFL clubs told The Courier they were in full support of the idea, with BFL operations manager Aaron Nunn suggesting it was likely the board would try and bring the 2015 trial to the league.
The development of an AFL Victoria-led statewide solution has been backed by 83 per cent of clubs statewide.
