BALLARAT band Horris Green won the 2014 Freeza Push Start Battle of the Bands regional final at the weekend.

The two-piece heavy blues rock band will perform in front of thousands at the grand final at the Moomba Festival in Melbourne next year.
Guitarist and vocalist Lachlan Murphy and drummer James McDougall competed against four bands from Western Victoria at Karova Lounge on Sunday afternoon.
Macedon Ranges band Jimmy and Paige was awarded runner-up.
Mount Alexander’s At Seas End, Bendigo’s Paper Boat Armarda and Loddon’s 10,000 hours also competed.
Each band had 20 minutes to impress the judges.
Representatives from the Freeza Sonika committee and Mushroom Records judged the five bands on their music and stage presence.
City of Ballarat youth engagement and events officer Tabitha Rickard said live music was important to young people in Ballarat.
“The music scene in Ballarat is iconic,” Ms Rickard said.
“Competitions like this show that there is quality music coming out of Ballarat.”
Horris Green previously won the Ballarat Battle of the Bands heat in August.
About 150 young people attended the performance between 2pm and 6pm.
Ballarat band and former Triple J Unearthed winners The Apes also performed on Sunday.
Horris Green will compete at the grand final on March 7.
