Children have been rewarded for their efforts by receiving a card depicting a young Ballarat sports person each day they walk or ride to school.
There has been a significant increase in pedestrian traffic (and fewer cars) as a result for Alfredton Primary School.
Kids have been highly motivated to collect the set of cards, linked in with the number of school days in October.
They have developed fitness, comradery, road sense and general responsibility along the way.
Teachers have embraced the program and made supervised 'catch -up' laps of the oval at lunchtime for kids who were unable, for one reason or another, to walk to school.
Parents or older siblings have made an effort to walk or ride the young ones with them.
It has been a win, win, win program.
