Ballarat City Council has fixed a section of the one-kilometre track used by the club in the south-east corner of Victoria Park. A section of the track has also been widened.
Cycling club road committee member Sam Palanca said the improved standard of the track would not only pave the way for high quality events to be held, but hopefully encourage more women to take part.
Women currently compete with the men in C-grade, but Palanca said the club hoped to attract enough members to establish its own female competition.
Ballarat-Sebastopol Cycling Club currently has four National Road Series riders within its ranks (Pat Shaw, Liam White, Jay Bourke and Reece Gillett) and Palanca said that signified a strong club.
Up to 40 riders compete in the club’s weekly criteriums.
