THE Doctor Blake Mysteries tells the tale of Dr Lucien Blake (Craig McLachlan), who returns home to Ballarat in the late 1950s to run his deceased father’s medical practice.
In doing so he also takes on the role of police surgeon – a job that finds him solving murders and mysteries.
Filmed in 2012 and 2013, the ABC show features many iconic Ballarat locations including Lydiard Street, the Town Hall, Ballarat Colonists’ Club, Lake Wendouree and Pax Hill Activity Centre.
Series one achieved a national average audience of 1.5 million viewers across its 10 weeks on air and was syndicated to a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
Filming has now started on series three so keep an eye out for McLachlan and co around town.
Many Ballarat streets and iconic buildings have been used in the filming of the show, including Webster Street, Sturt Street, Ballarat Town Hall, Lydiard Street and the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
There have also been many familiar Ballarat faces seen on the show, with local residents used as extras.
