They are as overdressed as the trophy wife whose husband buys small nations as a hobby and hasn't filled out a full and frank tax return for 50 years: pinks, mauves, whites, frills, brighter than any artist's palette. They should be totally hideous but for two mitigating factors – they bloom after the drab of deep winter and they bloom best in the semi-shade of woodland. Woodland shade means lots of green, the perfect foil for an azalea, or even 20.
