Bill Cook and Gary Parker received National Emergency Medals at the Sebastopol Fire Brigade annual meeting and awards dinner on Saturday night.
Lieutenant Cook was modest about his recognition and said fighting fires during the Black Saturday bushfires was a chance to give back to the community.
"It is very humbling, we don't do what we do to win awards, but it is nice to be recognised," he said.
For Mr Cook, fighting the 2009 fires was a chance to help, but he hoped future firefighters never had to experience the same.
"It was a day like no other. I have been in the brigade 32 years and never want to see a day like it again," he said. Brigade captain Joe Jansen said both Mr Cook and Mr Parker were very deserving of the awards.
"They really are great to work with, it was a fantastic effort for them and to everyone else receiving awards," he said.
David Maloney was awarded a 20-year service medal and Ged Belleville also received an award on the night for his 25 years of service.
