However, the latest entrant to the charity circuit is trying to change the game somewhat.

“Most charity golf days you would play for a bottle of red that you would go home and cook with,” said Matt Vallance, co-organiser of Chip for Charity – a golf day aimed at raising funds for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute. 

Mr Vallance, along with colleague Bobby Mehta and local radio announcer Paul Taylor, are hoping to raise $10,000 for the charity at their event on February 20. 

Melbourne-based comedian Andrew Startin will be present at a luncheon that will precede the golf, which will be played at Ballarat Golf Club in a four-man Ambrose format.

Mr Mehta said organisers had been “blown away” by the support from the local community thus far. Prizes include $1000 cash for first place and an $8000 golf trip to Fiji for those lucky enough to snag a hole in one on the par three sixth hole.
