About 170 punters with parched mouths and rumbling bellies crammed into the Forge Pizzeria for The Blacksmith's Supper.
The four-course feast was washed down with some of the finest local grog - provided by Warrenmang wine.
Forge Pizzeria director Tim Matthews was blown away by the turn out, saying he needed to drag extra tables and chairs into the restaurant.
He said the new generation of restaurateurs coming through in Ballarat was making the city an exciting place to be of an evening.
Local Kara Quinlan said the night was a good opportunity to support local businesses and Good Food Ballarat, running throughout November.
Colleen McClure said Ballart's food scene had got a lot more exciting over recent years.
"People coming to Ballarat used to think it was a bit of a ghost town," said Ms McClure, who felt mid-week nights out were more commonplace.
Nikki Faulkner said Ballaratians had an appetite for good food and the better variety had encouraged more people to "get out and about".
