IT may have recently undergone a name change, but the Ballarat Market will always be known by most as Trash and Treasure or, more simply, Trash.
Rain, hail or shine, its dedicated followers make the pilgrimage every Sunday morning to the Ballarat Showgrounds, hoping to snap up a bargain or two.
Young and old can be found strolling through the stalls laden with secondhand wares, crafts, plants, fruit and vegetables, and hot food (a godsend on those chilly mornings).
And the hot jam donuts on offer just inside the front gate have a cult following of their own (some people make the trip to Trash purely for their weekly dose of deep fried goodness).
Now in its 34th year, the market has been run by the Rotary Club of Ballarat South since day one, with all proceeds going back into the local community.
