On the same day Hawkes Racing and owner Bell rolled out another bright prospect in smart debut winner Binary at Canterbury, the former Racing NSW chairman said the prospect of blazing the same path as Black Caviar would be seriously considered for Deep Field.

Royal Ascot officials have briefed the Hawkes and Bell of the logistics required to take Deep Field to Royal Ascot in June, which would be sure to create a huge stir if the entire can preserve his unbeaten record in the autumn.

The full brother to Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win is a perfect five from five, including a gritty last-start win at group-2 level down the Flemington straight on Derby day.

The Royal Ascot carrot was, understandably, then dangled in front of Deep Field's connections and Bell said the lure of making the son of Northern Meteor a stallion prospect with northern hemisphere appeal would need to be carefully thought through.

"Whenever you've got a sprinting colt with stud appeal – and we keep getting told how exciting this colt is as a stallion proposition by the leading breeders – you've got to have a careful look at it," Bell said. "At least canvass it.

"They [Royal Ascot officials] have been in touch, but John Hawkes will make the calls. We haven't discussed it in any detail yet. We're just letting the horse settle, catch his breath and then we'll have a think about it.

"The way the arrangements are ... it's really a red carpet rolled out for you in terms of all the organisation side of things. They're very good at making you aware of the timetable and what the calendar requires you to do, and there's really nothing that needs to be done until early next year in terms of getting ourselves organised if we need to do it."

Hawkes Racing is yet to lock in Deep Field's autumn program, but co-trainer Michael Hawkes said it would more than likely be tailored around the $2.5 million T.J. Smith Stakes on the first day of The Championships.

It would mean a potentially mouth-watering clash with stablemate Chautauqua – with Terravista and defending T.J. Smith champion Lankan Rupee thrown in for good measure – all of which finished in the first three of the Darley Classic.

Hawkes said Deep Field "looked fantastic" after being in the paddock for a little more than a fortnight.

"He will probably end up [in the T.J. Smith], yes, but where he starts and where he stops are two different things," Hawkes said. "But for him, it's about keeping him intact.

"He's a stallion and he's worth a lot of money at the moment, so to chase that elusive group 1 is what we're after. It's a starting point and we'll see where we go."

Binary made the most of his starting point on Wednesday, idling outside the leader before romping away in a three-year-old maiden for colts and geldings.

The gelding is by the unfashionable stallion Starcraft and from the same family as Australian Derby winner Dr Grace, which was only at stud for three years before his death.

"It's worked for me in the past, buying great horses from stallions no one wants," Bell said. "Sometimes it works for you if the horse goes the right way, but you've got to be prepared to geld them, too.

"As he matured and as the pressure went on to race he would have increasingly struggled with his brain if he was a colt. He's got more things to think about. He just needed to be cut and it worked out for him."

Hawkes said Binary was "still a preparation away", but was buoyed by the gelding knuckling down over the final 100 metres under James McDonald to race away and win by two lengths from Godolphin's Crimson God.

"He's a lovely horse and he's still green," Hawkes said, "He's not there yet, but he's going to be a very nice horse later on."
