He came to Ballarat as the head of the Performing Arts faculty at the University of Ballarat in 1989. His foresight saw it evolve into the Ballarat Academy of Performing Arts BAPA and its enhanced reputation due to his work saw it up there with NIDA (Sydney) and WAPA (Perth).
Peter also served as a board member of the Begonia Festival from 1997 to 2002.
He and I were able to secure funding from the Hugh Williamson Foundation for BAPA to present the annual theatre productions for the festival.
Our last collaboration with the festival was when we lobbied, and successfully received, both state and federal funding for the Centenary of Federation/Begonia Festival Theatre production, Deeds Our Fathers Did, the highly acclaimed original commissioned work written by Jon Stephens.
This story was of the four Australian prime ministers who were connected to Ballarat, and was staged along the Prime Ministers Avenue in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.
Peter and I had discussed a new play to be written and staged in the Eureka Stockade Gardens. Sadly, this was not to be.
Peter's determination and infectious enthusiasm for his art will be missed. We won't forget him.
Keep sharpening those pencils. Your job is done. Thank you for being my friend, now rest in peace.
