IN RESPONSE to the letter "Nothing courageous in taking your own life" (November 13). I totally disagree with the writer: this is not an issue of placing limits on ones self-worth, but rather in having the right to determine the quality of one's life and or death.

We may come into this world dependant on others, but to say we must leave this world in the same way seems to me to be a very narrow view.
I believe it should be an individual's right to choose how and when they die and, so for me personally, that means I will decide when I have suffered enough or lingered enough.
And, you can rest assured, that dying with dignity and respect and probably with a touch of courage ... will be forefront of my decision making. As it will no doubt be, for all those who believe how we die is a fundamental human right.
