It was a pledge The Forge Pizzeria director Tim Matthews made on White Ribbon Day last year. 

Mr Matthews now joins 60 other Ballarat men who vowed to support the cause. 

Ballarat White Ribbon Day chairman Bob Maika said 11 men would become ambassadors on Tuesday. 

“We have 11 people this year and last year we had 16,” Mr Maika said. “The men are eager to be a part of it.”

Mr Maika aimed to sign up 100 Ballarat men as ambassadors by 2016. 

“A lot of them have moved on and out of the city, so our total sits around 60,” he said. 

Mr Matthews said he was proud to be an ambassador. 

“We are trying to get young business people involved in the campaign,” he said. 

“Violence against women is actually a man issue, because they are the ones in most instances committing the violence. It isn’t always the man, but that’s the way it falls,” he said. 

Mr Matthews said the more people spoke about the issue, the better the awareness.

“There could always be more ambassadors,” he said. 

“It is one of those things where the more people talk about it, the more the victims feel comfortable talking about it.”

The list of this year’s ambassadors has not been disclosed. 

White Ribbon Day is on November 25.
