Police and paramedics were called to the maximum security prison in Truganinain Melbourne's west at 1.30pm to respond to a report of an inmate being stabbed.
An Ambulance Victoria media spokesman said they treated a man in his 20s with stab wounds and lacerations to the upper body.
The inmate was taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he was in a stable condition.
