After weeks of doing very little on the road, they decided to start resurfacing the road at 2.30pm, just as the rain came, no doubt earning themselves bonuses for working in wet weather.
Then they continued to work well past 5pm, which surely meant massive penalty rates.
What a pity they had little respect for the thousands of people they inconvenienced with traffic jams banking up for miles in all directions, lasting well into the evening.
What was even more concerning was that they delayed parents picking up children from the three local schools, causing severe distress to many young children.
Traffic delays of 45 minutes to an hour occurred, with blockages on several surrounding roads. School buses were massively delayed, causing unnecessary stress on parents and children.
Of course, no notice was given to drivers to expect delays.
That signage went up a month ago, advising of delays for two days in October. Of course, no work was actually done then.
Frustrated drivers telling the workers of the traffic jams and of having distressed children waiting to be picked up were rudely abused by these workers, who just didn't care.
Can someone from VicRoads please explain how these workers were allowed to shut down a major access road during school pick-up times and into the evening peak without any notice to the thousands affected?
