WHEN it comes to choosing a location for happy snaps on your big day, the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and Lake Wendouree are obvious choices.
Summer, autumn, winter or spring, the gardens are the perfect backdrop for wedding photos – and wedding ceremonies.
The land, covering 40 hectares, was first reserved for a public garden in 1857.
According to the Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, a magnificent gardenesque-style central garden was well established by the 1880s.
The gardens are divided into three distinct zones – the central gardens, the north gardens (which includes a wetlands reserve) and the south gardens (which includes the Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Garden).
