Dyson is set to hit the stage at the 2014 Meredith Music Festival for the first time this weekend.
“That part of regional Victoria is close to my heart,” she said.
“I’m really excited, I’ve always really wanted to play there.
“It has a unique, iconic status in the Australian music festival scene, and there is always an outstanding line-up.
“I really appreciate being put in the line-up,”Dyson said.
“There are many festivals around the nation I’ve loved and hope I can add this to the list.”
Having grown up around music, it was never going to be a hard choice whether she would follow in her family’s musical footsteps or not.
“My dad taught me guitar and I fell in love with the creative process,” she said
“When I had enough songs, it just went from there.”
A decade on and Dyson has seen her fans grow both nationally and internationally.
“What’s wonderful is that initially in the start people just come to check you out. Now 10 years in there are some people who know every song,” she said
“In Australia it’s fun to play to those who know my music, but it’s always nice playing to those who don’t and trying to win them over,” she said.
“That’s what is going to be so good about Meredith, there will be those I have played for before and others that have never heard of me.”
The release of Dyson’s new album, The Moment, touches on past experiences of needing to grow up and confront fears, and although she said it touches on darker themes, fans are in for a very energetic and playful performance in Meredith.
“The creation of new songs is diffi cult and frustrating at times but it is also fulfilling, and performing too is a big aspect of my life, being on stage and connecting with the audience is amazing,” she said.
“Some of the songs off my new album are really fun to play live, so we hope to slam it.”
Dyson will follow Tiny Ruins on Saturday afternoon performing between 12-12.40pm before The Harpoons and Phosphorescent take to the stage.
The War on Drugs, Ty Segan, Misty nights, VaKula, De La Soul, Augie March, Factory Floor and The Lemon Heads will also perform at Meredith Music Festival.
