Contractor H.Troon has already demolished the old pharmacy building, installed more than 110,000 pieces of scaffold, completed all internal demolition and brought down the building’s top section, with work started on the remaining floors.
BHS chief executive officer Andrew Rowe said a new three-storey building would include a general/surgical ward, extra space for future operating theatre expansion and a front-of-house reception area.
“The demolition of Yuille House will be a significant moment for BHS and will mark the next step in our master plan to cater for the growing population of Ballarat and the Grampians region,” Mr Rowe said.
“We would like to thank our patients and visitors for their understanding during the ongoing construction works, which will continue over the next few years.”
Yuille House is expected to be fully demolished by early next year.
Over the next few weeks, there will also be Base Hospital internal access changes.
New direction signs will be installed while the Mair Street multi-storey car park opening will provide extra disabled parking and a patient drop-off zone.
Work on the new BHS dental clinic at Phoenix College is also nearly finished.
Contractor SJ Weir has completed most internal works, with the painting and fit out of dental suites underway, along with landscaping and car park works.
The dental clinic is expected to open within the first half of next year.
Final landscaping works on the Pleasant Street cancer accommodation units have also been completed and they will be ready for occupancy early next year.
Construction on the Mother Baby Unit, also in Pleasant Street, is under way, with bricklaying finished and internal lining being installed.
It is expected to reach lock-up stage before Christmas and be finished by early next year.
