A tourist centre which would cater for tourists, motor homes, caravans, [with] overnight parking, running repairs available, supplies, children's playground, almost every convenience required.
A world class facility is needed quickly and cheaply. The ex-Golden Point school plantation, which was on Crown Land in Magpie Street, was turned into a sports area for cricket, football, tennis, athletic training and general recreation by the School Committee.
Since the demise of the school it has been neglected by the city council, and mysteriously acquired by Sovereign Hill and then passed on to people who are not considering the health of this fine city of Ballarat.
This hectare-plus of high ground overlooking the city centre has directional signs from all the city's entrances and an address opposite Sovereign Hill's main entrance and [is] adjacent to the Gold Museum.
All the water, power, sewerage, in fact every requirement except high rise units, [has been] jammed in by greedy and selfish people whose interests are certainly not those of Ballarat.
