This time, it is the Pyrenees Arts Council Art Trax Gallery.
Restoration has seen the old railway station transformed into an art space for local artists. Pyrenees Arts Council and gallery co-ordinator Anne Beer said it had always been a wish to have such a gallery in the region but finding the right building in a suitable location was always an issue.
“The railway station building was unused and falling into disrepair,” she said.
“Putting our hands up to have the gallery in the building provided the opportunity to have the building renovated and restored to its former glory, maintaining the history of the town.
“It also provided another attraction to bring visitors to Beaufort and the Pyrenees district, which is vital for the survival of the many small businesses in the district.”
Ms Beer said the gallery, which was opened on October 31, was essentially a place for artists to display their work.
“We believe that the gallery will encourage the Pyrenees artists in their work as they know they will have a space to exhibit and sell their art,” she said.
“We also hope to encourage newartists and young artists by providing workshops and artist in residence programs in the work room we have as part of the gallery complex.”
The restoration program was funded by Public Transport Victoria under the Community Use of Vacant Rail Buildings Program.
The building now houses three gallery rooms, a gallery shop and modern kitchen with an artists’ work room, store room and toilet facilities.
The exhibition on display includes work from 22 Pyrenees artists and is open Friday to Monday, from 10am to 4pm.
