The 34-year-old mother of three will hopefully be home in time for both December 25 and the joint birthday she shares with daughter Holli on Monday.
Yet only a week ago, Mrs Morgan was undergoing a 10-hour operation at St Vincent’s Hospital to remove a cancerous tumour growing into her ear drum.
However, husband Chad said on Wednesday she would have to undergo radiation treatment throughout January, with chemotherapy still a possibility.
Mrs Morgan is also the sister of Ballarat 17-year-old Cory Panazzo, who has a terminal type of genetic condition neurofibromatosis but still raised more than $3500 for the Good Friday Appeal after an extended stint in the Royal Children’s Hospital from last October until April.
Mr Morgan said he was very grateful to the community – who had already donated to Cory’s final wish – for now rallying around his family as well.
“We’ve been blown away by the generosity of everyone so far,” Mr Morgan said.
“Two ladies from Holli’s school came and mowed the lawn while we were away.
“I’m very humble about it all.
“Jodi and myself are both astounded at everyone’s kindness and well wishes.
“We really didn’t expect it.”
Mr Morgan said his wife’s cancer was more common in elderly men and has resulted in her losing her entire right ear.
“She is now deaf in the right ear and they had to operate down into the jawbone too.”
Mr Morgan is a truck driver who has had to take time off work to both travel to and from Melbourne and care for Holli, 11, and her siblings, Ryan, 8, and Rory, 6.
So Mrs Morgan’s sister Emma Ward, who is now also Cory’s sole carer while her sister recovers, has set up a fundraising page to help her brother-in-law with caring for the family.
