The Erth artistic director has created three new members of the Sovereign Hill family for the school holidays.
A digger, blacksmith and school mistress will be part of the month-long Majestic Mythical Marvels attraction from December 26.
Teams of designers created the larger-than-life puppets in a few months. The puppets stand three metres high, weigh about 25 kilograms and require three staff to bring the character to life.
Mr Wright returned to his home town to teach the Sovereign Hill staff how to puppeteer on Wednesday. “Each puppet has a personality. There are things that each one has to do,” he said.
The puppet trio will perform about a dozen times a day, ahead of a joint performance at 3pm.
Mr Wright was approached by Sovereign Hill to build the puppets about 18 months ago.
He is hoping they will become a permanent fixture at the tourist attraction.
Mr Wright is renowned for the stage production Dinosaur Zoo, which has featured on the West End and Broadway.
Sovereign Hill is calling for the public to name two of its puppets via its website.
