Philippa Crawley, 11, has been accepted into the Australian Ballet School’s Interstate/International Training Program (ITP) Level 2 for 2015.
For as long as Philippa can remember she has been dancing, but now she is one step closer to her dream of one day performing with the Australian Ballet.
With an extensive list of achievements including winning the Victorian Ballet Teachers’ Workshop 10-11 years, Follow Your Dreams Dancing Competition dancer of the year and 28 first places at eisteddfods in 2014, it is easy to see how Philippa scored so well at auditions for the ITP.
With no idea if she had made it, a letter confirming her selection was the perfect early Christmas present for Philippa.
“I went down to Melbourne for an audition and a couple of days later I got a letter in the mail, “ she said.
“I was so excited and happy that I got in.
“I love dancing. It’s an art form and when I dance it makes me so happy.
“Hopefully, when I get older and I keep working hard, I will hopefully get into the Australian Ballet.”
Philippa’s teacher, Ballarat Ballet Centre artistic director Justine Morris, said she deserved the position in ITP.
“She is so dedicated, I can’t fault her,” she said.
“She has lovely expression, which makes the dancer at the end of the day.”
As part of the program, Philippa will have access to specialised coaching classes, intensive training sessions and personal visits to the Australian Ballet School.
