The Ballarat Foundation and United Way Ballarat announced the recipients of their funding for 2015 in a special celebration at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute on Wednesday night.
Of the 36 organisations which applied for the funding, 22 received up to $10,000 for projects in 2015.
Allocation committee chair and board member of both the Ballarat Foundation and United Way Ballarat, Kizanne Davies, said it was hoped the money would be used to strengthen Ballarat by helping to improve the lives of some of the more vulnerable people in the city.
“More disadvantaged people can now have similar opportunities that we do,” Ms Davies said.
She said each of the 22 organisations met a set of criteria that looked at what programs would benefit the community most.
One recipient was Very Special Kids Ballarat Family Support Services, which supports families throughout their experiences of caring for children with life-threatening conditions.
Very Special Kids central region co-ordinator Marianne Collins said the funds allowed the organisation to support more families.
“We wouldn’t be able to run the programs we do without it. It’s a huge support for families” she said.
“I’d like to see our regional areas expand now.”
