The Renegades have named a 13-man squad to meet Sydney Sixers at the SCG after training at the venue on Thursday afternoon.
Short was promoted to the Renegades’ primary roster after joining the club as a rookie player last summer.
Australian paceman Peter Siddle will sharpen the Renegades’ bowling attack. Cricket Australia cleared Siddle to play after he was omitted from the second Test in Brisbane.
Big-hitting West Indian Dwayne Bravo and Jamaican all-rounder Andre Russell are also named in the 13-man squad, while Andrew Fekete will replace the injured Jayde Herrick.
Between Fekete, Fawad Ahmed and Nathan Rimmington, the Renegades have the three leading wicket takers in the Sheffield Shield so far this summer.
Short, an East Ballarat and Central Highlands cricket product, made his Sheffield Shield debut for the Victorian Bushrangers in October.
RENEGADES: Aaron Finch (captain), Ben Rohrer (vice-captain), Matthew Wade (wicketkeeper), Callum Ferguson, Tom Cooper, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell, Andrew Fekete, Nathan Rimmington, Peter Siddle, Fawad Ahmed, Matthew Short, Nick Winter.
