The team, consisting of Lachlan Webb, Cassandra O’Mara and Brett Jeffreson, was the only one to field all below black belt competitors.
The trio won the first bout with two wins and a draw against Melbourne’s Fudoshin Kendo Club, but failed to advance through to the latter rounds.
The fighting spirit award is awarded to the contestants with the best team attitude and overall team spirit.
It is often handed out to those who achieve highly on the day against the odds.
The Mumeishi tournament has been taking place all over the world for 40 years.
