V/Line services will also be free on Christmas Day, and those who have booked tickets are entitled to a refund.
But V/Line recommends people get to trains early to ensure they can get on.
The Ballarat service running from Southern Cross after day one of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG will have extra capacity.
On New Year’s Eve, there will be extra late-night services, but V/Line has not specified how many or when they will stop, and travel will be free on New Year’s Day.
