The Red Caps won their way into the Cricket Victoria Statewide Twenty20 Cup with a narrow quarter-final win in Warracknabeal on Sunday.
They passed Mallee-Murray club Leitchville-Gunblower’s 161-run tally when six wickets down and with one over to spare.
Wendouree must now wait until a likely fixture in early February for the semi-final and bid to return to the MCG on February 22.
The Red Caps won the state Twenty20 crown on the hallowed turf of the ‘G in 2012 and are hungry to taste such glory again.
Liam Brady (29 runs) and Cole Roscholler (25) set the foundation for a comfortable win until they were both dismissed in the eighth over with the score on 50 runs.
Twenty20 skipper Matt Smith (35 runs) got the Red Caps’ run rate back on track to all but guide his team to the win.
