The Burrumbeet Park and Windermere Racing Club will mark the 125th running of the Burrumbeet Cup on Thursday with lots of trackside – and on-track – entertainment about for the whole family.
To start, the first 250 children through the gate will receive a showbag.
Then, there is face-painting, sporting games and fun activities for them to try.
Club committee member Brian Johnson said an early warm forecast suggested an expected crowd of 5000 people could be at the track to ring in the new year.
“Burrumbeet Cup day is all about having a day out with your family and we have a huge range of free kids’ activities in the Bendigo Bank kids’ zone,” Johnson said.
“It’s a special area that’s been designed for the children to enjoy themselves while the mums and dads kick back and relax.
“We have a merry-go-round, jumping castle, animal farm, pony rides, rock climbing, segways and more.”
Aspiring young caller Dayne Barry, aged 13, is set to call his second race having made his debut at Mount Wycheproof last month. He will join the program with experienced caller Rick McIntosh. Kids Dash for Cash down the home straight between races and fashions on the field, for ladies and gentlemen, remain key events on Cup day.
Sporting clubs will also enter battle in a punters’ club for racing enthusiasts.
Umbrella and marquee packages are still available.
