"My favourites were the zombie or pirate nights"
And the pub's karaoke coordinator still remembers his first time.
"I remember my very first night hosting karaoke there – it was a Wednesday and lots of students came along," Mr Kelava said.
"I didn't expect it – it was bigger than I thought. I had to develop a system very quickly and we ended up having an amazing night."
News that the Peter Lalor will close, to be revamped as a food and wine pub, has Ballarat residents recalling fond memories of nights at the bar.

Mr Kelava said he would have attended about 500 karaoke events at the Peter Lalor, and it was one of the first pubs he ever went to.
"The theme nights were always great – a large portion of the crowd would dress up and get into the theme," he said.
"My favourites were the zombie or pirate nights.
"I loved the Kamikaze Karaoke – where once a month all the regulars came in on a Sunday."
It was revealed on Saturday the Peter Lalor had held its last drinks on New Year's Eve.
Co-owner Brian Taylor said changes to the building had been on the cards for some time and he had plans for the hotel to "jazz it up a bit" and reopen.
One "final hurrah" is planned for next Saturday.
